29" wheels never looked so good! The Diamondback Overdrive Pro takes 29ers to the next level. The butted aluminum frame is a solid foundation, but it's what goes on that frame that makes the Overdrive Pro special. The Rock Shox Recon Gold Solo Air 29" fork gives you 100mm of travel with the capability to adjust both the rebound and compression as well as lock out the fork out. The SRAM x-5 9-speed shifters and SRAM X-7 rear derailleur make the going easy while the Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes will aid in stopping. Add in double wall wheels and you can drive this bike over pretty much anything.

You get what you pay for

Bought for $825 with free shipping. Good value b/c I did not want to spend a ton of money just to try out the 29'er thing. Glad I paid what I did because this bike is not worth more than that. Good news is that I am glad that I did b/c I love 29ers. The Reba on this bike is the best I have used. It is one of the reasons I purchased the bike. But after 3 months of weekend use I have four problems with te bike. First, the seatpost will not stay up. I even acssembled a worm drive hose clamp under the original clamp for backup. It helped a lot but the seatpost still moves. I think the issue is that the seatpost tube is too large and there is a sloppy fit. Second issue is that the spokes are coming loose. I have many loose spokes on the rear wheel. In the 4 bikes and 11 years of mountain biking i have never seen such a poorly built wheel. The Thudbuster LT takes out a lot of impact on the wheel Third issue is that the rear hub is loose. I thought it was the bearings so I adjusted so there was hardly any clearance left. But the rear wheel still moves side to side after it is installed. Forth issue is that the bearings in the rear wheel are very loud. This makes me concerned that the bearing will self destruct. My plan is to use the factory wheels as a backup and install bike path tires on them. They are [not] up to offroad duty.UPDATE ON FACTORY WHEELS: The front wheel axle was actually bent from the factory. Disc brake adjustment would change dramatically every time the front wheel was removed. Needed to mark the angular orientation with a sharpie. Wheel truing at reputable LBS only lasted one month. Wheels are low grade but OK for bike path.GENERAL UPDATE: After about a year of riding and tuning this rig is going great. Now have salsa seatpost clamp, Ignitor/Crossmark on Flows run tubeless, and avid BB7s. Kept factory saddle, BB, cranks, shifters, stem, headset. The salsa non-adjustable seatpost clamp fixed the seatpost movement. After a riding harsh rock gardens and few minor crashes I can say the bike has held up very well. At 190 lbs I can pound hard on the cranks. I would add another 1/2 star based on the value if I could. But even with the great value I will not bump up to 4 stars b/c of my time wasted on the problems.BOTTOM LINE: I would buy again at up to $900. Plan on discarding the wheels, the adjustable seatpost clamp, and possibly the brakes. Tighten every screw and torque the brake screws.

GREAT 29er Hardtail !

I bought the small 16" for $900. The 2011 PRO model is well worth the money.First of all, most of the parts listed from Amazon are for the 2009 Pro model. Here are the actual parts that come with the 2011 Overdrive Pro model:Fork: Rock Shox Recon Gold TKCranks: SRAM S800Bottom Bracket: Truvativ Power Spline Sealed CartridgeFront Derailleur: SRAM X-5 Low clampRear Derailleur: SRAM X-7 9spdShifter: SRAM SX-5 9spd triggerBrake Levers: Avid Elixer 3 DiscBrakes: Avid Elixer 3 Hydraulic DiscThis is my first MTB, so it took me approximately 10 hours to assemble, adjust, and fine tune the whole bike.The easy part was setting up and adjusting the handle bars, levers, shifters, and seat height. The medium level part was tuning both derailleurs. The hard part was tuning/truing the hydraulic disc brakes.Starting with the derailleurs, reading and following the directions from the manual to adjust them weren't too bad. After ensuring that the gears shift properly, all I had to do was to slowly adjust the High and Low screws from the derailleurs to get rid of the chain rattling and to get the gears to consistently shift smoothly. I noticed the SRAM shifter is for aggressive riders; the thumb shifters need to be pushed firmly. I got used it after awhile when tuning it so it seems fairly easy to shift gears up and down now. The shifters are conveniently located within thumb reach =)Now for the Hydraulic brakes. Out of the box, the discs heavily rubbed against the pads after installing the wheels. Since the brakes were already bled, I did not want to get into bleeding it and so on (plus I'm new with disk brakes) The manual said to loosen the brake mounts, squeeze the brake levers 5-6 times and hold, and snug (lightly tighten) the mounts to check if the disc rubs. If it rubs (which it did), then repeat the process over until it doesn't rub. Well, I spent several hours repeating these steps. I was getting tired, so I kept going until it rubbed the least. From there, I just trued the discs by eyeballing the rubbing area and bent the disc by hand. Everything was a breeze from there. I re-tightened the mounts and adjusted the levers to my specs.I recommend taking the time to learn and fine tune the bike before riding because I noticed some of the bolts aren't securely tightened.All components of the bike work properly and very well. The SRAM gears shift like butter. Once properly adjusted, the chain is able to work with any gear combination without rattling. The Elixer 3 hydro brakes are crazy sensitive and work extremely well.The Recon Gold works wonders. I'm about 160 lbs. with backpack. The fork is set at 100 psi and mid level rebound. I've taken it off road and done drops, bunny hops, and a few jumps. Haven't bottomed out or had any problems so far.I think the big wheels take away some of the impact. The 29" also rolls over almost anything in the way.Negatives:- The bike needs proper adjustments when assembling, which is time consuming.- Since it's a 29", distance between the pedals and the front wheel is shorter. For instant, if I pedal with my heel, the tip of my shoes would rub against the front tires when turning. However, this isn't a big problem because I normally ride with the upper part my feet, which avoids the rub.I would definitely recommend the 2011 Overdrive Pro.
